Korean Sharing Movement (KSM)
The Korean Sharing Movement (KSM) was founded on June 21, 1996, in response to the severe food crisis in North Korea and its appeal for emergency assistance. KSM began as a nationwide movement which was founded with participation from six major religious orders, including Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Buddhist organizations, along with several major civic groups in South Korea.
Since its founding, KSM has worked to advance reconciliation between South and North Korea and promote peace on the Korean Peninsula through inter-Korean cooperation projects and peace solidarity initiatives at home and abroad. KSM also carries out a wide range of civic engagement programs and peace education activities to raise public awareness of Korean Peninsula issues and foster a culture of peace. In addition, KSM continues to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with Korean diaspora communities around the world in advancing these goals.«

Our Work
1. Promote a culture of peace through dialogue and discussion
• Civic engagement platform grounded in respect and inclusion: We illuminate and confront the conflicts caused by division, identify pathways for change, and envision together a future of peaceful coexistence.
• Peace education through mutual learning: We expand the horizons of peace by linking our values and aspirations to the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
2. Create a framework for sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia through solidarity and cooperation
• Collective peace action and policy engagement: We collaborate with partners at home and abroad to elevate voices for peace, and build the consensus and institutional frameworks required to realize it.
• Solidarity with the Korean diaspora in support of peace: We engage with Korean diaspora communities to develop a shared vision of peace for the Korean Peninsula, respond to humanitarian needs, and reinforce bonds of solidarity.
3. Advance inter-Korean exchange and cooperation that contributes to peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity
• Communication and engagement through diverse channels: We establish inter-Korean and international dialogue channels to build trust through continuous exchange and engagement.
• Inter-Korean cooperation for sustainable well-being: We pursue cooperation to address shared challenges, including regional tensions, climate change, and disasters, while also improving the well-being of all people living in the region.
4. Develop KSM as a shared platform for all who envision a peaceful Korean Peninsula
• A hub for people-to-people connection: We connect people across generations, communities, and perspectives to ensure that all can participate in shaping peace.
• A sustainable foundation for action: We cultivate public trust and support based on an organizational culture of respect and accountability to guarantee stable financial and operational foundations for our work.
Strategic Focus
Promoting co-development of the Korean people & Broadening exchanges and cooperation to address the disparity between the two Koreas
1. Taking a proactive role in Inter-Korean cooperative projects induding those related to agro-livestock, health care, ecological environment, and knowledge sharing that are both sustainable and mutually beneficial
2. Extending sharing movement where humanitarian needs exist
3. Establishing an office in Pyongyang and its network in order to foster Inter-Korean exchanges and guarantee stable implementation of our projects
4. Promoting the relationship with Korean communities overseas to share visions and cooperate in peace projects

Brief History
June 21, 1996 Establishment of the Korean Sharing Movement
July 1996 Initiated a nationwide fund-raising campaign to help the North Korean people
June 1998 Hosted a “Corn Porridge Dinner for the North Korean people” with distinguished figures from many sectors of society
February 1999 Registered as the exclusive gateway for South Korean aid to North Korea
May 2001 Appointed as an official organization for supporting North Korea by the Ministry of Unification
November 26, 2003 Establishment of the Center for Peace and Sharing
Feb. 2004 ~ Jan. 2006 Served as the President Organization for the Korea NGO Council for Cooperation with North Korea (KNCCK)
May 2005 Organized “The 4th International NGO Conference on Assistance to the DPRK” in Beijing
July 31, 2007 Granted Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UNECOSOC)
